Tapered wooden arrows

The wooden hickory shafts are rugged and durable. tapered arrows are also known as a "bob-tailed", meaning that the front of the arrow is a larger diameter than the rear.

Tapering is necessary with dense wood, and offers many benefits.

The arrows' weight is off center towards the front, making a "forgiving" arrow, as the center of gravity leaves the bow first and helps "pull" the rest of the arrow through the shot

The arrow wood used is hand selected straight grained hickory.

They are difficult to make, and so I can only produce a limited amount of them.

Some of my personal tapered arrows are many years old.. and I can't tell you the kind of abuse I put them through. The hickory arrows are slightly heavy, but punch through targets with authority.

Straight wooden arrows

The sitka spruce shafts are lighter, and while less durable than the hickory arrows, offer a flatter trajectory in flight and with the same feather fletching and self nocks.

They are slightly heavier and more durable than cedar, which is often used for traditional arrows.

What Sets our Arrows apart?

primitive arrow heads

making arrows by hand

Authenticity: These arrows are completely free of plastic and made for someone who wants raw primitive archery equipment.

Wild turkey fletch: They are not plasticized. The wild turkey feather fletching has almost zero deflection and offers rugged durability.

REAL sinew bindings: Not the waxed nylon stuff called "artificial sinew", which is what I see advertised as "sinew" 99% of the time.

Sinew is actually chewed animal tendon, in this case elk. It shrinks when it dries because of the natural glues inside of it. This is the real primitive and ensures a good grip on the fletching.

Grooving: carving fluted grooves on the shaft is a way to stiffen the arrow into a straight position.

This was rare, yet practiced around the world in the primitive times.
