About Our Handcrafted Bows

I am passionate about making quality handmade bows and arrows, and so it has become my artform.

All of the self bows here are crafted true to primitive methods, following the growth rings of the wood. They are handcrafted from seasoned staves and include an a braintanned leather handle with arrow rest and fur silencers.

These bows are very quiet, with a smooth draw and low handshock for the discerning archer. This is accomplished by using subtle engineering to lower limb mass, and using an asymmetrical tiller (one barely noticeable in most cases) to redistribute handshock.

A wooden bow is very light in the hand, but the strength of the wood is surprising when put to the test.

Take care of these bows, and they will give many years of rugged service.

About the traditional long bow

The traditional long bow is a type of flat bow that has been documented as being used in various primitive cultures from across the globe, including American Indian bows ancient European. While harder to make than a typical d-bow (see stick series) it is also less common and therefore most likely a later development in primitive archery, it is currently the oldest found type of bow (see historical holmegaard bow)

The wider flat limbs are where the flat bow gets it's name, and in the modern resurgence of traditional archery, all traditional laminates fall into this category.

The traditional long bow that I make was taught to me by my mentor, Errett Callihan, and is a simplified variation of the holmegaard bow with outstandingly smooth draw and cast, with rugged dependability.

If you could only have one primitive bow, this should be the one.
